Spaces Designed to be Lived In

Outdoor living at River Rock Villa is designed to feel natural, generous, and unforced — spaces that invite gathering without instruction and relaxation without schedule. Stone terraces, covered seating, fire features, and open-air views allow guests to move easily between activity and rest throughout the day and into the evening.

These are spaces meant to be lived in: barefoot mornings, long lunches, golden-hour conversation, and evenings that stretch a little longer than planned.

Terraces & Outdoor Flow

The terraces are intentionally layered, creating visual interest and distinct outdoor zones without ever feeling divided.

Upper levels tend to support conversation, dining, sunning, grilling, and open views. Lower levels offer a closer connection to the landscape, the grotto, and the natural rhythm of the property.

Trex pathways, stone surfaces, and masonry transitions guide movement in an organic but purposeful way. Guests are encouraged to wander, settle where they wish, and discover the spaces naturally. There is no single right place to be.

Covered Seating & All-Weather Enjoyment

Covered outdoor seating allows guests to enjoy the open air in a variety of conditions.

These spaces are especially well suited for morning coffee during light rain, afternoon breaks from the sun, evening wine and conversation, or simply watching weather move through the trees.

The sound of rain on wood and stone is part of the experience — slow, calming, and deeply restorative.

The covered wrap porch is especially loved for its comfort, generous width, and easy gathering. With couches, a swing, and room for six to eight guests, it is well suited for morning coffee, relaxed conversation, weather watching, or an evening glass of wine. Many guests find that beverages simply taste better there.

For comfort and flow, we ask that outdoor furniture remain in place and that side tables be used for snacks, lunches, or small plates.

Outdoor Dining & Entertaining

Outdoor dining spaces are arranged for both casual meals and shared celebrations.

Flexible seating supports families and groups with ease, and durable surfaces make outdoor use practical as well as inviting. Lighting allows dining to continue comfortably after sunset, while pool-friendly and outdoor dishware help make transitions between indoor and outdoor living feel simple.

Much of the outdoor dinnerware is stored in the pantry for convenience, allowing guests to move easily between kitchen, terrace, pool, and firelight gatherings.

The swim-up bar offers seating for two and also works well as a buffet or serving point during gatherings.

Fire Features & Evening Warmth

Fire features extend the enjoyment of the outdoors after sunset and during cooler weather.

The circular propane fire table on the terrace level is designed for ambience, warmth, and relaxed conversation. Guests are welcome to gather around it as a natural evening focal point. Drinks may rest on the fire table itself, while the lightweight square end tables are useful for cooler beverages or additional surfaces nearby.

The operating mechanics open within the base of the table. Please turn the fire table off when leaving the area or retiring for the evening. In inclement weather, use the protective cover once the unit has fully cooled.

There are also citronella torches around the pool levels, contributing a warm, tropical atmosphere after dark. If used, light the wicks carefully with a long-handled lighter and extinguish them with the candle snuffer or lid snuffer for best results. Please ensure they are fully out when outdoor activities are complete.

For safety and stewardship, no fire feature should ever be left unattended.

Grilling & Outdoor Cooking

Outdoor cooking is part of the River Rock Villa experience and may be enjoyed in several ways.

Guests will find access to grilling and cooking areas that support everything from simple lunches to longer evening meals. Buckets in the pantry also support outdoor dining and gathering, helping keep grilling fuel, serving support, and practical extras easy to access when moving between kitchen, terrace, and poolside spaces.

To help keep the equipment functioning well, grills should be cleaned in a timely manner after use. Additional cleaning charges may apply if heavy cleaning is required. The Pit Boss wood dispenser must remain dry for proper operation, and if pellets or wood chips become wet or damp, use should be discontinued immediately. Grills and smokers should be covered once cooled.

Propane is supplied. If it is heavily used or runs empty, please refill it or advise the host upon departure.

Grotto, Poolside Entertaining & Lower Gathering Areas

The grotto is located beneath the terrace, wrapped around the Trex deck and open to the wooded setting through arched openings.

Inside, guests will find the pool table set on a sandy floor, along with a six-foot Lifetime table that works well for appetizers, snacks, and casual gathering while others play.

This lower gathering zone offers a unique blend of shelter, atmosphere, and privacy, with views into the natural landscape beyond.

A refrigerator is located in the lower-level pool room for quick access to cold drinks, and the nearby pool bath provides convenient restroom access from both inside and outside the home.

Trash receptacles are placed on each level for convenience. Please empty or consolidate waste appropriately when departing.

Dogs should not be brought into the sand-floor grotto, as accidents are difficult to clean properly in that setting.

Lighting, Sound & Atmosphere

Outdoor lighting at River Rock Villa is intentionally warm and restrained — never harsh and never theatrical.

Path lighting supports safe movement without overpowering the landscape. Tree and garden lighting, small lights on the porch columns, and nearby cherry tree lighting add depth, softness, and quiet ambience throughout the evening. Garden and pathway lights help preserve both atmosphere and visibility.

Poolside lights are generally automated from dusk until about 10:00 PM. Manual exterior lighting controls guests may wish to use are located near the poolside sliding glass door and at the front door, including lighting for lawn, porch, and rear patio areas.

For guests who prefer darker sleeping conditions, we recommend turning exterior lights off before retiring whenever practical. On the porch, turning off the porch lights may also help reduce flying insects while seated outdoors.

A motion-sensing light near the front door provides foot-level lighting for entry. Its cover may be adjusted depending on your preference for light or darkness.

If the small LED lights on the porch columns or near the cherry tree are not to your liking, the plug is located near the side porch screen door.

Music may be enjoyed outdoors at respectful volumes. Because sound carries naturally through the landscape, we ask that guests remain mindful of both neighbors and the quiet character of the setting.

Please bring in any portable speakers at the end of the evening, especially the white Sonos portable speaker.

Nature Awareness, Footing & Stewardship

Because River Rock Villa is integrated into a wooded and natural environment, guests are encouraged to move with awareness outdoors.

Please take care with footing on stone paths, especially after rain, wear appropriate footwear if surfaces feel warm or textured, remain mindful of landscaping edges and changes in elevation, and stay aware of the possibility of insects, frogs, snakes, or other wildlife near wooded areas.

A rustic wooded area at the edge of the property includes a natural canopy and picnic table, offering another place to gather, enjoy table games, or simply spend time closer to the texture of the land.

The gardens, trees, flowers, and grasses are designed with both natural needs and visual character in mind. At times, guests may notice ripe vegetables or fruit and, when appropriate, are welcome to enjoy the simple pleasure of vine-to-table abundance.

These conditions are part of the property’s character — authentic, grounded, and intentionally preserved.

Pets Outdoors

Dogs should remain leashed in the front yard and should not be left unattended in the back yard.

A designated pet area is available, but if pets wander beyond it, we ask that waste be collected throughout the property to help maintain healthy landscaping, environmental balance, and overall cleanliness.

For the safety of people and pets alike, gates should remain closed or locked at all times.

Towels, Drying & Evening Reset

A light reset helps keep outdoor areas beautiful and ready for the next use.

Please pick up towels and hang them in the evening to help prevent mildew. A white aluminum pool towel stand is available, and a spring-loaded clothesline is located on the side porch near the basement steps. It may be pulled to the lamppost and hooked into place. Clothespins are available in the pool room.

Before transitioning indoors or retiring for the evening, we ask that guests return cushions and movable items to their original places, dispose of food and trash properly, turn off fire features and citronella torches, cover grills once fully cooled, bring in portable speakers, and leave the area generally tidy for the next use.

As colored pool lights turn off, patio and pathway lighting often remain for a short period, allowing for a gentle reset of the area, lingering conversation, and quiet star viewing.

Outdoor living at River Rock Villa is about more than design.

It is conversation that lingers, meals that stretch into stories, quiet moments by firelight, children drifting between play and rest, and adults exhaling without realizing they needed to.

These spaces hold the in-between moments — often the ones guests remember most.
