River Rock Villa is more than a private luxury retreat on the Rappahannock River. It is the expression of a vision built over more than 26 years—a place where architecture, nature, family, and hospitality come together.
Surrounded by the beauty of the river, protected landscapes, and Virginia’s natural countryside, River Rock Villa was created to be a place of connection. A place to gather, celebrate, breathe, explore, and reconnect with the people and moments that matter most.
From the beginning, the intention was simple: create something exceptional while remaining deeply connected to the land.
Not grand for the sake of grandeur.
Beautiful because every detail was thoughtfully considered.
Before River Rock Villa
Long before River Rock Villa became a place to share, there was the beginning of a partnership.
Rebecca and Michael were introduced through friends, but their connection began before they ever met in person. Through conversations, phone calls, and emails, they discovered shared values, dreams, and a vision for the kind of life they wanted to build together.
Their first date was February 14, 2000, and they were married just two months later on April 15, 2000.
Twenty-six years later, that same foundation remains at the heart of everything they create: a belief that the most meaningful things in life are built through connection, intention, and shared experiences.
Michael’s journey began in Washington, DC, where he built a technology company focused on software solutions and infrastructure, including work with organizations such as Fannie Mae. After building and transitioning from that chapter, he chose a life closer to family, land, and the creative process of building something lasting.
Rebecca brought her passion for relationships, design, hospitality, and real estate. Together, they created boutique companies, helped develop global brands, and continue to work closely with longtime clients through more than four decades of combined experience.
Their strengths naturally complemented each other—Rebecca’s vision, creativity, and attention to experience paired with Michael’s structure, engineering mindset, and ability to transform ideas into reality.
Together, they created River Rock Villa.
The Meaning Behind River Rock Villa
The name River Rock Villa came naturally from its surroundings and the things that have always inspired us.
The river represents movement, connection, and the beauty of nature. The rocks represent strength, permanence, and the grounding presence of the earth.
Before River Rock Villa, we owned a mountain retreat built among limestone and named it “On The Rocks.” That connection to stone and landscape has always been part of our story.
At River Rock Villa, the relationship continued.
The rocks throughout the property were not simply placed—they were chosen with intention. From the jump rocks incorporated into the pool landscape to the stonework throughout the property, each element reflects a respect for natural materials and the character of the land.
Some of the largest stones were carefully selected, moved, positioned, and refined with the help of skilled craftsmen until they felt as though they had always belonged there.
That philosophy guided the entire property.
A Vision That Evolved Naturally
River Rock Villa was never created from a single blueprint or one defining moment.
Instead, it evolved through thousands of thoughtful decisions.
What if the kitchen became a place where people could gather around great food and meaningful conversation?
What if we opened the home to the sunlight and created spaces where the sky, trees, and seasons became part of everyday life?
What if the architecture followed the natural topography of the land rather than competing with it?
What if every generation had a place to feel comfortable, included, and connected?
Each question led naturally to another idea.
The driveway curved to welcome guests into the property. The terraces and decks followed the landscape to capture views of the surrounding trees. The home was designed to invite exploration through archways, open spaces, balconies, windows, and transitions that reveal something new around every corner.
Inspired by the timeless relationship between architecture and nature, including the philosophy of Frank Lloyd Wright, River Rock Villa was created with the belief that a home should belong to its surroundings.
Designed Around Connection
Every space at River Rock Villa was created with people in mind.
The expansive covered porches were inspired by memories of Rebecca’s great-grandparents’ home in Pittsburgh—the comfort of a porch swing, the gentle rhythm of a screen door opening and closing, and the feeling of family and friends naturally coming together.
That same feeling became part of River Rock Villa.
The home was designed for conversations that last longer than expected, mornings with coffee in the breeze, evenings under changing skies, and moments where people simply enjoy being together.
The twenty-foot family room reflects a love of light, openness, and the feeling of bringing the outdoors inside. Inspired by the warmth and brightness experienced during time spent in Florida, the space was designed to rise above the treetops and embrace the changing light of Virginia—from morning sun to evening moon.
Dual palm fans bring a subtle sense of the tropics while remaining rooted in the natural beauty of the landscape.
A Home For Every Generation
From the beginning, River Rock Villa was designed with generations in mind.
The first-floor primary suite was created with parents and grandparents in mind—a peaceful retreat that remains connected to the heart of the home. The attached screened porch allows guests to enjoy shade, quiet, and comfort while still being part of the activity and laughter happening around them.
The pool was designed with the same philosophy.
The sun shelf allows guests of all ages and comfort levels to enjoy the water and remain part of the experience. Whether playing, relaxing, or simply enjoying the conversation around them, everyone has a place to belong.
The additional bedrooms and family suites were designed to encourage connection while providing comfort and privacy. Spaces were created for siblings, families, and friends to share experiences while still having room to retreat.
Because true hospitality means no one is left outside the moment.
A Home Designed To Be Experienced
The heart of River Rock Villa is found in the moments it creates.
The chef’s kitchen was designed as a gathering place, with generous workspace, professional appliances, pantry spaces, and thoughtful details that encourage people to cook, share, and connect.
The recreation spaces invite laughter and play, from the theater and billiards to games, music, fitness, and quiet moments of relaxation.
The pool experience unfolds like a discovery—water flowing from the main pool into a lower lagoon, a handcrafted slide integrated into the stone landscape, natural stone steps, and a reflective pool surrounded by the beauty of the trees.
Beyond the home, trails lead through the property toward the Rappahannock River, creating opportunities for exploration, reflection, and connection with the surrounding landscape.
Every space was created around one belief:
The greatest luxury is not simply having beautiful surroundings. It is having the time and space to share them with the people who matter most.
A Legacy Shared
After 26 years of building, creating, raising a family, and caring for this special place, Rebecca and Michael entered a new chapter.
Their four children have grown and created homes and families of their own, and River Rock Villa now has the opportunity to welcome others.
While it remains a place for their family to return to, it is also a place to share—the laughter of new generations, meaningful gatherings, quiet moments, and memories waiting to be created.
The land has been nurtured with care: trees planted, flowers tended, trails maintained, and spaces thoughtfully refined over time.
River Rock Villa is not simply a property.
It is a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and intention.
It is a place created for connection.
